The benefit of attending group support meetings has been shown to empower the family which in turn can create a shift in the addicted family member so please try to get along to one of these - the opposite of addiction is connection.

Thomas Hunter is our guest speaker tonight, Tom has spent his whole career in Human Services and has a background in paramedicine, youth, and disability services with a particular focus on Men's services. He currently works as a Service Manager for Odyssey House and oversees the Men's residential program, The Alcohol and Drug screening and assessment service for the Canterbury district court (ADAS), 65 Alive (A service for older adults living with addiction), and the MethHelp service. He has a passion for working with people, for people and enjoys finding new ways to improve services to better peoples lives.

"We offer Auckland’s only residential, non-medical alcohol and drug detoxification centre. It’s a caring and guided environment where people looking to come off alcohol and drugs without medication, can do so in a safe, supportive context. People usually stay for about two weeks. After their stay, we keep supporting the individual to continue with their positive lifestyle changes."

In-person support meetings are invaluable, self-care is not selfish and taking care of your mental health is a priority. Our one-on-one toolkit sessions can be done by phone or Zoom.
